[@Emma] Year and a half isn't that old for a laptop. It's weird you're having issues with it.

You can find out RAM and processor by searching for your 'Configuration screen'. From there go to 'System & Security' and then 'System'. There you should find that sort of stuff though with a laptop one and a half years old, I'd doubt its that. What could help is saying the type of laptop (like the model, example HP Probook 470 or something like that). That way I can find the tech specs immediately.

Further, I'd guess malware could be a problem. From what you described I'd say it's a RAM issue (as everything seems to freeze). And as your laptop ain't that old I'd say a lot of background programs are causing it. Though I can't be 100% certain of that.
