[@Ryougu] I wasn't planning on using MTG mechanics since I was expecting to have a number of people who have not played the game before. Since combat is possible, I was planning to have it done in a method similar to the arena sub-forum. However, it is possible to play out actual games of Magic on this forum, using the dice rolling system. The two main problems are that a) It makes things less friendly to people without experience to the game and b) It's really abusable, since you could theoretically make a deck out of some lands and a bunch of mythic rares. Since games of Magic are meant to represent battles betweens wizards anyway, I figured it would be more like having both characters "charge up". That is, they can use 1-mana spells in the first post of the battle, 2-mana spells in the second and so forth. The reason mages aren't constantly "charging", from a lore perspective, is the mana burn mechanic that used to be in Magic. Basically charging themselves without using it will cause serious injuries or death, in large amounts. The spells themselves will be described by the player, prefereably based on actual cards. For example, [character1] flicks his hand and sends a small bolt of lightning at [character2], based on the spell "Shock". This will also help give context to what how much a given character will be able to take before death. I plan for PCs to be using the standard life 20, but particularly weak or powerful NPCs may have more or less.
