Dante has undertaken this contest in only the robes of his paladin order, as he pits his will and strength alone against his foes as a testament to his faith. (Possibly allowing sword or spear, or just barehanded, whatever. Possibility of reacquiring his stuff later on) Whatever place this tournament takes place in is cut off from the gods, severely limiting the holy magic that Dante can draw upon. Additionally, he feels the strength of his faith weaken ever so slightly, putting him at greater risk at falling prey to his dark instincts. (This one doesn't combine too well with absolutely no weapons, since it leaves him almost totally unarmed)
