I would actually say no to AI races. Could be a race with heavy implementation of mechanic components to live, but I don't see the empire leaving AI races alive at all. Especially not the evil world domination AI kind. Endless Space 2 has those friendly looking puffbal scientist robot races that are actually biological but not. Those may fit in. May.
