CHAPTER 1: The Cure 6am: Day 1 3 hours before first contact of infection Mecha City The sound of the alarm buzzing gave Dallen an immediate headache to start the day. His hangover didn't help either. The 36 year old lawyer rolled over and turned it off, giving out a sigh as he did so. "Fuck..." he muttered, massaging his temples. Just another day. His morning routine consisted of a warm shower, followed by putting on a suit. Eating some hot breakfast, then smoking far too many cigarettes before taking his daughter, Kelsey, to school and then heading to work at the courthouse. This day, however, he was feeling particularly lazy. "Again? It's early," replied the woman sleeping next to him. She wasn't an every day thing in Dallen's routine, but it was a nice change once in awhile. Her name was Lucy, she was just another lawyer working in the city. They weren't law partners, and in fact usually butted heads against one another in the court rooms. Kelsey hated her. "Yeah, yeah," Dallen said, turning his body to prepare to get up. "I'm thinking of calling in..." "Oh? Is that how you keep winning cases? You don't want to disappoint your image, now." "Eh, you're right," He pushed himself up and did a few stretches. "It's an easy day today, just a bunch of dui's and traffic tickets. Meet for lunch?" "Of course, we'll be in the same building anyway." They kissed and went their separate ways. Lucy headed straight for downtown after a quick shower and getting dressed. Dallen prepared breakfast for Kelsey, getting ready himself as he went. By the time Kelsey woke up he was already in his suit and tie, ready for the day. "I'm not feeling well..."was the first thing Kelsey said to him. "You sure? Father's can tell when their kids are lying, you know." "No you can't! I'm seventeen! Those lies don't work on me anymore!" "You have thirty minutes..." Kelsey huffed, then threw a stuffed rabbit at him.
