Bridging the gap between the physical and the metaphysical, Seed was designed to respond to mental commands to perform any task imagined. It's a powerful little nanomachine, able to suspend itself in any gravitational space and manipulate its environment with millions of times more force than its own weight. Since the apocalypse, its full power and scope of use has been lost to humanity. Today, mages use it as simple fuel, for it is able to absorb mana from its environment and sustain a substantial charge. Controlling it is another animal entirely. Two systems were designed: the first was a computerized circlet (today called the Crown of Fire, because of the light it produces) that reads the wearer's brain waves and transmits them in a manner readable to Seed. The second system was a genetic modification yielding the same effect. After years of development, the ability to control Seed through one's own natural thoughts became a passable genetic trait. It's a recessive trait, however, and the population of those carrying it is dwindling. Vast quantities of Seed were scattered all over the planet after the demon apocalypse, and over time, people have come to believe it is a part of nature. The rare individuals who were born with the ability to control Seed are viewed with reverence and awe, and are even worshipped in some circles. Whoever they are, they have the power to profoundly shape their world more than they know. It's only a matter of time before they discover it.
