Name: Yasu Hirabayashi Age: 17 Gender: Female Personality: Yasu is not the most pleasant person to deal with. She’s blunt, crass and coarse, and largely irreverent of any authority. She’s highly selfish, and finds it difficult to see past her own whimsy. She is type to live in the moment, and cares little for “long term investments”, preferring to indulge herself when she can. She’s also highly materialistic, placing great importance on having “nice stuff”, like clothes or jewellery. While she could be described as having a temper, Yasu is less inclined to explosive bursts of anger, instead favouring to reply with a cold, icy glare. If Yasu is angry with you, you’re more likely to realise it when you come home to your windows having been smashed in. Contrary to first impressions and common belief, Yasu is neither a bully nor a sadist. She is sure as hell vindictive, but it’s unlikely to find her chasing around people that haven’t crossed her in some fashion, though she can decide you’ve “crossed her” for fairly trivial reasons. She actually has a bit of a soft spot for “underdogs” and will stick up for a person she thinks is being treated unfairly. Granted, she’s usually too busy indulging herself to be going around looking after people, but if she happens to see someone being picked on, she’s more likely to try being a hero than a villain. She’s even capable of being perfectly friendly with someone, only they have to be someone willing to get past the selfishness and the foul language and the braying about the awesome piercing she just bought and the fact that she has committed crimes… Backstory: Yasu was not born in the gutter, but some would say she ended up there in spite of it. Yasu’s parents were in fact fairly well off; not filthy stinking rich, but wealthy enough that Yasu was handed enough cash regularly to sustain a fairly self-indulgent lifestyle. The only hiccup was that since both of them were working rather demanding jobs, Yasu found herself on her lonesome more often than others. While she had a nanny as a child, as she grew older she began to tire of sitting around at home and started sneaking out to broaden her horizons. This is when she got introduced to the wrong crowd and fell in with a band of delinquent kids. She came to enjoy the odd sense of freedom she felt among them, and they encouraged her to be more and more rebellious. Eventually, after realising their child was almost at home less than they were, they stopped hiring nannies and started looking into how to correct their wayward daughter’s behaviour. The funny thing about Yasu’s band is that they weren’t an needlessly violent lot. They were definitely a shifty lot that had many habits that weren’t palatable to society, and they certainly had truancy records as long as their arms, but they tended to react to provocations more than they instigated anything. For instance, a passing salaryman once mad an offhand quip about Yasu’s new tattoos, so she tailed him for two blocks and stole his briefcase while he wasn’t looking. Another case occurred when the building they were using as a meeting place was going to be torn down by an expanding business. That prompted Yasu and the gang to visit said business and help them ventilate the place by smashing their windows open. Yasu’s lot were without a doubt trouble, but they tended to keep to themselves if they had no reason to look for trouble. But living a life like that couldn’t possibly continue without more serious incidents. One day, a far more violent band of delinquents moved into the area and provoked Yasu’s band into a fight. While they weren’t afraid of a scrap, they weren’t quite prepared for how vicious these people would turn out to be. One of them pulled out a switchblade and lunged at Yasu. It was at this moment her power awakened; a bolt of electricity lurched out from her hand and scorched the attacker’s face. Yasu ran away from the battle after that, but it wasn’t the last she would see of the events that day. Her parents saw how banged up she had gotten that night, and now they weren’t about to sit around and hope they could correct her behaviour passively. Fortunately for them, the people from the institute soon turned up and gave them their out. They figured Yasu couldn’t possibly get up to half as much trouble at an institution packed with super powered staff members. They made it exceedingly clear that Yasu was going to go to this place, threatening to never let her see a single yen of their money if not. Being far too shallow to stomach living without her expensive vices, Yasu agreed to go. Even though she was worried about her friends, she didn’t feel like she had much choice here. Besides, she was partially interested in exploring these weird new abilities too. Appearance: Yasu’s natural hair colour is a raven black, but she took to using dyes during her time as a delinquent, and has stuck with a vibrant pink colour for some time. She is 5’7”, being somewhat tallish for a woman. She has a number of tattoos that can’t always be seen due to being under her clothes, but one clearly visible one is on the back of her neck done in the pattern of two thorns entwined in a heart shape. She also has piercings in both ears. Equipment: Yasu used a simple steel chain as a weapon during her time on the streets. She also tends to carry around a lot of completely useless but fairly pricey accessories, such as a silver bracelet on her left wrist and a golden hoop attached to her phone. Abilities: Yasu is familiar with the art of the scrap, even if she didn’t always go seeking out random fights. Her fighting style is unrefined, but she is a tough girl through and through. She has also exercised her sticky fingers on more than one occasion and has a knack for grabbing stuff from other people without getting caught. Channeller category: Wavecaster Description of power: Yasu’s power is the ability to manipulate and produce electricity. Names/descriptions of moves: -Zap: Just a simple electric bolt that travels in a linear fashion, though it does have a fair range to it. -Crackle: This unleashes a dangerous spray of electric energy over the immediate area, making it hard to get near Yasu, though it has a limited range and area of effect. It gets pushed out in a forward facing cone, so it doesn’t defend her at every angle. -Pop: This is a close quarters technique that sees Yasu flow an electric current through the opponent’s body, giving them a nasty and continuous shock. Naturally, she has to actually touch the opponent to put this into effect.

Name: Alexei Pavlov Age: 44 Gender: Male Personality: Alexei is a big man with an equally big personality. He is loud and prone to speaking in an exaggerated fashion, as if determined to make full use of his vocal range. He has a big heart and is a strong believer in a strong community. He believes the institute is not just a place of learning but a community in of itself, and he always goes out of his way to reinforce that idea with his students. In spite of his hard muscles, Alexei can be a bit of a soft teacher, and is reluctant to use overt discipline on anyone, preferring to believe in the power of positive reinforcement. Backstory: Born in a tiny hamlet nestled in the Siberian Taiga, Alexei was always guaranteed to live a life of hard physical labour in his early years. Fortunately for him, he was always a big strong lad, and he took to manual tasks quite well. Even if he was a huge man himself, his community was always small, and everyone had to work together closely to keep things going. Alexei developed and iron clad belief in the power of the community during his time at home. As he matured, Alexei settled into the position of carpenter in the village, being more than physically capable as well as having developed an affinity for working with a hammer. Besides, a big strong man needed an equally big strong house, and he learned the hard way what happened when he sat on chairs that couldn’t support his mass. It was after one long hard day of building work that Alexei discovered his powers. A freak bolt of lightning happened to strike a tree near the house he was building, causing it to fall onto the site and make the whole thing collapse. Alexei managed to hold up the collapsing mass, urging those working with him to escape the house. Those that escaped were at first expecting that Alexei would be trapped within the house, but much to the surprise of the whole village, Alexei managed to make his way out, keeping the place from collapsing on top of him the whole time. They all assumed it was a miracle at work, those in the know knew better. Not long after that event, people from the institute came to collect Alexei. Although he did not relish leaving his family and friends behind, his parents urged him to seize the opportunity, and thus he agreed to go. Alexei quickly took to learning more about his abilities. His talent as an augmenter and his astonishing raw strength was exemplary during his time. At the end of his training, he was theoretically free to go back home, but although he would certainly visit the place often, he made up his mind that the institute was too big of an opportunity to make a difference to turn away from. He wanted to become a mentor there to train others as he had been, and to foster a greater community spirit among this channeller community he found himself a part of. With his talents and affinity for working with others, he was quickly made a mentor and became a fixture at the institute ever since. Appearance: Alexei stands at the vast height of 7 feet tall. Equipment: -Alexei’s primary weapon is his greathammer. As a large and unwieldy weapon, it serves as a testament to his strength that he can whip it around like a toy. -For a ranged alternative, Alexei carries around a number of smaller hammers to use as throwing weapons. Abilities: Alexei is strong and powerful even without his magic, capable of preforming feats at least on a par with a world class body builder. He’s also a very skilled carpenter; if you need a house built, you better believe he’ll make you a good one. Channeller category: Augmenter Description of power: Alexei’s one and only ability is one that allows him to strengthen his muscles in a way that gives him strength well beyond that which he already possesses. It not only allows him to overcome the sheer weight of his weapon and increase the force behind his strikes, but also allows him to move at a decent speed while fighting. His increased muscle power does not make his muscles any more resistant to damage, however, and they can still be damaged as easily as they usually might. Names/descriptions of moves: -Herculean Swing: An augmented attack with Alexei’s hammer, with enough force behind it to crush through solid walls. -Earthshaker: An attack that sees Alexei slam his hammer into the ground with great force, fragmenting the immediate area and more than likely to cause those nearby to lose their footing. -Olympic Toss: Alexei tosses one of his throwing hammers, propelling it across large distances with his might.
