Mostly after, I think I'll have it so that her discovery was more based on the fact that she has a more blunt and forceful personality, much like her weapons. The first weapons she was ever able to create were bats and hammers because they were the most familiar to her, though they started off as hollow copies at best. After discovering her abilities and why they were possible, she took to the books, which was rare for her, and ultimately taught herself a handful of weapons to make, which ultimately led to her arsenal consisting of bats, maces, and a large war hammer, which is her favorite weapon. The marbles were simple enough to be self taught though.
