Folly was born in Arkham Asylum. Her mother, best known as the infamous Harley Quinn, had been handcuffed to a bed when Folly vacated the womb. Despite the pleading of the staff to give her daughter a normal name, something mundane like [i]Lucy[/i], Harley insisted on naming the girl Folly. One of the orderlies slapped on Jane as a middle name, in hopes of making a normal life more possible for the child. Child protective services then seized Folly, unable to determine a father. Doctors ran tests on the child, noting that her immune system was peculiar, and hypothesized it was an effect of the acid her mother had bathed in years prior. 

No one in the Quinzel family wanted Folly, however. The tabloids and the papers were labeling her as the daughter of the Joker, despite a lack of evidence. Folly was thus placed in a foster home, and remained, bounced from place to place till the age of three. Only other criminals ever placed an interest in adopting the child, and with the heavy scrutiny over Folly, they never succeeded. At the age of four, her mother was released from Arkham, carrying a clean bill of health. She took back custody of Folly, and the pair of them moved to New York, living in an apartment on Coney Island. Her "aunt" Poison Ivy would drop by quite often, but Folly wasn't exposed to the criminal lifestyle many expected. 

At the age of fourteen, however, her relatively quiet life was interrupted. The Joker broke into their apartment, intent on killing her mother. Folly had been out at school, and by the time she came home, her mother had donned her old Jester costume, and informed Folly they were moving to Gotham. The Joker took an interest in Folly, attempting to train her to be a criminal. 

And while they did stay in Gotham for a few months with the Joker, it was short lived. One of the Joker's schemes went awry and her mother had been landed back in Arkham. Furious and filled with rage, the Joker slit her throat, in a manner that hardly kept her alive. He left Folly to bleed out, only for the Gotham Bat to rescue her. She spent a good few weeks in Gotham City Hospital, and while her mother's instructions named Dr. Pamela Isley as her guardian, millionaire Bruce Wayne decided to take Folly in as his ward. She figured that he did it for the publicity, to improve his public image. 

Folly had some issues, of course, with all of the public attention she received. Uncomfortable with the gigantic scar on her neck and unable to visit her mother, the chance to enroll at Wayne High was perfect for her. It would allow her to see her mother, but also be around other students like her. People who wouldn't care who her father may or may not have been.

Her father, Boris, was billed as a magician, while her mother, Fiodora, was a contortionist in the sideshow. Instead of growing up with normal children and attending school, Folly was raised in the circus community. Her best friend was the son of the snake charmer, and she played with the twin daughters of one of the clowns as well. In total, there were around seven children traveling with the circus. 

Folly's father wanted her to follow in his footsteps and become an illusionist as well. He woke her up at the crack of dawn each morning starting at age six, attempting to train her in his craft. It never took. She took after her mother in skill, but rather than wanting to be a contortionist, Folly dreamed of flying on the trapeze. It infuriated her father, but the acrobats of the circus began to train her, and while she wasn't even close to second string, she really took to it. By the time she was twelve, Folly had made second string, the youngest acrobat in the circus.

And while the entire circus treated each other like family, Folly's parents were not exactly the most stable. Her mother had fallen hopelessly in love with a psychotic and abusive alcoholic. She managed to keep Folly protected from it mostly, but she couldn't protect Folly entirely. Her father didn't work just for the circus--he was strong, and he sometimes hired himself out, in order to come up with extra cash. After one of those deals soured, Folly was the first thing Boris saw when he came home. He cut Folly's throat open and left her on the floor to bleed to death. It was a miracle that she survived. She was only thirteen. 

It interrupted her performances, as few as they had been. The recovery was long and painful, but it only created a deep resentment for her father. Her mother took him back after a month. The police were never informed as to what exactly happened, so Boris faced no charges for attempted murder. The circus went by a policy of settling family matters within the family. It was only when Folly turned fourteen that her neck was fully healed, and that she had been cleared to once again fly on the trapeze.

	After the tragedy in [url=https://www.roleplayerguild.com/posts/4230215]Coventry[/url] at the end of 2016, Folly fled Cirque Anomaly. Everyone she cared about was dead and there was no point in trying to build something out of ash. She walked from Coventry to Salem and then hopped on the commuter rail to Boston. The charges against her had been dropped, but her experiences were slowly driving her mad. She stayed in various shelters for months, each night waking up in fits of rage. They were controllable until she moved to Cromwell House, having accepted some help from a cousin to get consistent accommodation. 

	Unspeakable horrors were soon to follow. Folly checked herself into Beth Israel Psychiatric Hospital, having realized the bottom she had sunk to. She was well aware of her healing factor at this point, yet it was a while until she realized that the medication simply couldn't work for her. Her system eliminated it as quickly as it was taken in. Folly ditched the hospital and went to the one place that might be able to help - Xavier's Institute. Some of the mutants there were able to stop her when the voices and the visions grew to be too much and she couldn't control herself, but she needed actual treatment. Professor Xavier recommended a psychiatric hospital where a former student of his worked, hopeful that their psychic ability would help them to treat Folly's psychosis. 

	The treatment helped - yet it was not effective. It only managed to keep her from becoming worse. She didn't get better. Those frustrations were expressed in letters to Marygold, her good friend from her time at the institute. When the weeks out of date newspapers were delivered to the facility and Folly learned of the attack on X-Mansion, she broke out of the facility and went to find her friends. She wanted to help them and knew that if she stayed at the facility, O.M.E.N. would come for her too. 

	For the past ten years, she has been fighting with the X-Men, the Brotherhood, and whatever mutants remain. Beast had managed to synthesize a drug to treat her psychosis, allowing her to remain stable. The drug is based off of Wolverine's DNA, but the valiant fighter perished two years ago. They were not able to recover his body and the remaining material is all used up. There's no medication left to keep her violent and mad tendencies in check.
