Should I make a brief character profile for reference then?
To start with, I'm expecting my character to be a Tome or Staff user.

Well... I have a ton of questions to start off with:
What kind of sibling relationship do you envision our characters sharing?
In particular, I guess I'm asking what disposition do you think they would have towards one another?
Or is it a bit too early to ask, given that our characters haven't been properly fleshed out yet?
