There is no actualized version of semantics. It's only a human construct used to understand actualized things, just like math. So it would only be an illusion that affects humans who use it. Other species wouldn't be affected, so a [i]truly[/i] smart/creative character could observe how animals respond to something that's acting oddly. Or, perhaps, [i]turn into[/i] one such other species to alter their thought process in such a way that semantics no longer factor in. Much like how other species don't use numbers, they also don't assign labels to things, so they'd be immune. One could also argue, due to the lack of specifics in how it works on the mental level, that anyone who is multilingual would have a decent chance to recognize the distinction between an affected object and another object of the same name. A sort of "a rose by any other name is a rosa" thing. Or anyone who is able to suspend object-oriented thinking processes would also be able to notice that, at the very least, something is wrong beyond what a normal person would.
