Don't even bother with Dragon weapons, you'll easily be outdamaging the Drake Sword if you have a weapon with even C Scaling soon enough if you simply upgrade it and raise the stat/stats it scales with.

I'd suggest going with a weapon with a B scaling minimum. Some weapons also upgrade in scaling when upgraded, such as the Uchigatana going from B scaling with Dexterity to A scaling around +10.
