Sure there was a point in her family’s ancestry where the mages engaged in battle with ordinary humans. It was a dark time back when hatred kept a steady grip on the land but time has helped to mend the wounds cast about by those anger-filled voids. Nowadays all notion of prejudice seems to be gone and by the time the family magic was carried over to Umi, her life was relatively normal. The only downer was the lack of a guiding force in her magical aptitude, something that was ignored by the elder members of her family due to their busy schedules. Thankfully news of a school for people just like her is spreading around.[/indent][/color]

Granted, she can only manipulate that which is cast by the sun, making her effectively powerless at night time. With her power she is able to create small orbs that can either be used to light the way or as an offensive spell, acting like a miniature firework when thrown.[/indent][/color]
