Street Fighter is a game designed, at least in part, with balance between all the characters in mind. In tournament play, many characters are often banned from games such as those because they are unbalanced, so I'm not sure I quite understand your point?

Yu-Gi-Oh is also plagued with balance issues, so in tournament play you see a number of cards outright banned, same logic applies, it's in the interest of creating a level playing field in a competitive environment.

I'm not going to question your logic before I've even seen how you intend to measure the character's entered, I'm just saying I'm not surprised that you've reeled in some whoppers, so to speak, so I'll leave this here.

You haven't played a street fighter tournament in several years I can assure you.
Yu gi oh is similar to TZDL except our ban list is smaller.

Also I haven't judged those entrants yet and sign ups is from here to May 1st. Will you be signing up?

Since when or in what tournaments do certain character in Street Fighter get banned? I think you're kinda pulling stuff outta some place here. Games like SF, BB, GG, etc. never had to ban characters even if they were op. They might of been cheap yea but that's literally the first time I've ever heard of something like that. Gonna need a source on that.

'Games such as those' is the important part there, if the game is well designed or simplistic enough characters don't have to be banned because the creator's have done their job. If you add in more moving parts, like say, League of Legends, you suddenly need an internal banning system because some characters are outright broken. A better example is how many stages are banned in those sort of tournaments because they favour one player in particular or are too random to ascertain skill.

Anyway, that's a different topic entirely.

I know you haven't judged any entrants, though I think the type of entrants you get are somewhat indicative of the rules laid out, so you can certainly tell some things from entrees alone, I'm still waiting for the moderation to really form any real opinion.

I'll see how you moderate the characters entered, if they slide down to anything near the level of combat I'm comfortable playing at, sure, I'll join.

Melon, you do know that just because you don't like how something is, a group of people do right?(edit: typed that in haste. I mean that its not wrong if a group of people do right?)

It's simple man...its not your cup of tea so stick your dick out of kettle. It's that simple, stop ruining it for other people.

The only non-canon aspect of the tournament is that each fight does not have to be canon to the characters involved in any way.. unless they want it to. You can join with any character you like provided it follows the b/r and scheduling system.

The purpose if the critique and, erm, complaints, is to simply see if it can be done better than it is right now. Maybe it can, maybe it cannot - that's up to debate, isn't it?

EDIT: when people think it's necessary to bring in a host of anti-cheese owers to get themselves a fair up-close and personal fight, that's sort of eh in my book. Consider that i myself had the same idea when examining the previous iteration character sheets, and that makes at least two people who feel it's better to focus on outright negating their opponent's powers, rather than try outplay them with their own character's moveset.

Of course, part of that stems from a 'simple and functional is best' philosophy; forcing your opponent to face you in your area of expertise by cutting off everything else - but i still think the above remains relevant.

@Vordak I wish to weigh in on this debate.

I understand your perspective because I started off in what this place calls Low Tier. Those were some of the greatest fights I've ever had. But in order to progress in our Arena Ranking, you had to have an understanding and been sufficiently skilled in all facets of the game. So I was challenged to stretch my imagination and acquire new skills, learn different schools of thought and philosophy studies from other cultures. The result of all my hard work speaks for itself.

Speaking for myself, my own defensive ability is actually designed to test my opponents. Are they nothing without their powers or magic? Am I fighting them or their character? I disagree with your anti-cheese allegations. Having a character who can function at any tier boils down to a combination of how well you build them as well as your own personal skills and knowledge.

In the end, it all factors into your strategy.

By that same token, it is likewise true for those who embrace the Fantasy and Sci-Fi elements inherent to RPing. Characters are an extension of ourselves, an illustration of our inner self and creativity. To that end, the character shall always reflect the core personality of the player. I learned to respect all characters and maintain an open mind. Thus, we experience an exchange of new ideas and new ways to perceive this art form we all share in enjoyment.

Personally, the focus should be less on the profiles and more on the actual content of the fights themselves. But that is just the opinion of an old vet.

Hello there! I noticed the interest check for this the other day. After some deliberation, I figured I'd ask: is this event closed to new entries from the ones that expressed interest on the other thread? Or am I welcome to (attempt) submitting a character.

My Arena muscles are kinda cold, and my joints a bit rusty; but I think I can warm them up enough to give this the old college try.

So after an hour or two of debating it with the judges it was decided to revoke the previous special ruling for electricity and have the scheduling system handle it as intended. I will like to apologize to anyone who had the intention of making electrical based characters including Keileon and Decoy for making an unfit and bias ruling against one specific aspect of power.

@Wayward

This is the official sign up. You enter here by entering your character and having it approved. The interest check was a headcount to see who was interested before I decided to finalize this tournament.

Very well. I'll strive to not disappoint. It would seem that this is ramping up to be quite the event. It may be foolish of me to jump in cold like this, but it'll be a great opportunity to pit myself against more talented combatants again.

Well, if nothing else, I've realised that I haven't participated in enough high tier combat to really be able to formulate an opinion on it, so with that in mind I'll enter if you'll have me. Honestly I have no idea if the character I've chosen is in the right power bracket, though.

I haven't had that many fights on here. Maybe...3? And about one of them I heard Devil, Pollen, and some others I can't remember were talking smack behind my back. Which I will address here and now, since it seemed to be an issue. I was waiting for Doc Doctor to reply to me but he hasn't got back to me. Yes, in the fight between my character Sky and Doc's character Gonad there was a portion of the fight I did copy and paste something from the previous post. It was done out of frustration and one of the only times I have done so without someone deliberately asking for it, it's not something I usually do. It was a point in the fight where the fight itself was going no where, we were just reiterating ourselves over and over, and the frustration got to me. I only did it once and afterward I realized I was trying to be too complicated with my approach and things went smoother after that. Truth be told I didn't like how that fight ended.
(Quick Edit: It was also almost a year ago, I'd have to go back and reread to see what I did exactly. But it's not something I do all the time. As you'll see in the other two fights.)

Just, in the future guys, if you have a problem with me come to be about it so that I can address it in a collected and polite manner. Please.

Here are the fights:
http://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/93417-the-memory-remains-sky-dancer-vs-gonad/ic?page=2#post-3661951
http://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/91876-mt-r2-enki-vs-everett/ic#post-3396947
http://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/91547-majesty-tournament-r1-ki-vs-everett/ic

I won the first one, but like previously mentioned I didn't like the victory. The second one stopped because the tournament fell apart and the third one my opponent forfeit.
