Name: Lorelei; Formerly Lydia Clarissa Black Age: 519 Race: Demon; Formerly Human Rank: Queen of Hell Personality: Like most demons, Lorelei believes in only one power: herself. Her greed and self-interest are always accounted for in her decisions, as she isn't one to be selfless. If Lorelei makes a deal, there's always some sort of benefit to her. This isn't always immediately clear, as she's a plotter and a schemer at heart. She'd much rather manipulate others than get her hands dirty, of course. However, Lorelei also has one trait that sets her apart from most demons: she's perhaps a bit insane. A remnant of her human life, Lorelei's plans and ideas can legitimately terrorize some of the demons in hell. It helps her to keep them in line. Over time, they've become more accustomed to her methods, but that doesn't mean that Lorelei isn't feared among demons. Sometimes, she just wants to watch the world burn. History: Lorelei was born as Lydia Clarissa Black in the early twentieth century. Her father was a member of the Secret Service, with the family living in Washington D.C. during the 1920's. She had a young brother, Samuel, who was always jealous of her. Their parents gave Lydia all of the attention, leaving Samuel a miserable life as an afterthought. Lydia was fortunate enough to be able to attend college, pursuing a career in physics in a male dominated field. It was the Roaring Twenties, and it wasn't as unusual for a women to attend college as it had been before. She attended a university close to home, and while there, she fell in love. It would have been fine, had one of Samuel's friends, attending the school as well, hadn't seen Lydia and her girlfriend together. Samuel found out about it and threatened Lydia with telling their parents the next time he saw her. To make a long story short, she murdered her brother to protect herself. Rather than sentence her to death, she was placed in a psychiatric institute, where they routinely used electroshock, lobotomies, and insulin therapy to cure her "madness." The treatments killed her before the ten year anniversary of Samuel's death. No one collected her body and she was buried in the pauper's field. Needless to say, Lydia landed herself in hell. Gaining the name Lorelei, she made a reputation for herself as an excellent torturer, using the practices she had been subjected to in the asylum as a starting point. She trained under the Yellow Eyed Demon himself. And during the first attempt at an apocalypse, Lorelei wasn't an idiot. She kept her cards close to her chest, remaining under a mask of anonymity as to avoid Lucifer or Crowley's attention. She then worked under Crowley after that fiasco ended, always knowing how the tides were changing, and making the appropriate switches in loyalty. By the time Crowley was dead and gone, Lorelei had risen to relative prominence in hell, but not enough yet to rule. It was about one hundred years ago that she overthrew the last King of Hell, taking the throne for herself.
