Name: Claude du Lac Gender: Male Age: 16 Weapon: Lighters. Lots of 'em. Does not possess a soul weapon. Appearance: Claude is a young man with cyan eyes and messy, mid-neck length black hair parted at the center. He's tall, slim, and light - built for agility rather than raw strength. He prefers to dress in a fashion that can only be called 'plain'. No brand logos, lettering, graphics; nothing but unremarkable all around. Abilities: Reactant Air - Warp Spasm
Reactant Air Technically the manipulation of gaseous matter rather than traditional manipulation of air. There's no throwing around people with gale-force winds or anything like that here. Instead, this particular ability allows him to manipulate the smallest particles of any form of matter that's in gas state, including aerosols, and cause reactions. While lacking in true combat capabilities, by using sufficient application of creativity and knowledge of chemistry, it can truly become a force to be reckoned with. Warp Spasm The manipulation of living matter. A perverse form of his family's trademark matter manipulation talents. It isn't something as wholesome as giving yourself super strength or healing people, but rather an ability more akin to deforming one's body. Rather than changing his physiology, he warps it. And feels everything associated with whatever changes he makes, from reshaping bones to sprouting combat tentacles or wicked claws. It's both an ability gruesome to use, and gruesome to watch being used. Claude refuses to use it for multiple reasons.
Soul Alignment: Light Grey, Cursed
Light Grey Chaotic Good Curse of the Lake Once, the du Lac family was a proud bloodline of priests, having served the Order constantly for generations without fail. For such an old lineage, it was surprising that they lacked any branch families, a trait which ended up becoming their downfall. Around 500 years ago, the du Lac lineage was cursed, which caused, among other things, a decline in their heirs' capacity to wield the family's trademark matter manipulation abilities, conjure up spiritual weapons, or just plain become priests. It was a devastating hit, each generation becoming weaker and less potent than the last. Eventually the curse will drive the family into ruin, unless someone were to prevent it. Effects -Hereditary, spreads to children -Slowly removes spiritual potential in subsequent generations -Rids usage of soul weapons -Allows the cursed to be effected by others' priest abilities +Gets a snazzy ability! -...That basically turns him into a monster. And he feels all the pain associated with rending your body to grow tentacles or whatever when using it, as well as losing those parts when deactivating it.
Personality: Claude is determined, driven, and a huge freaking nerd. He doesn't go out of his way to instigate a conversation with someone outside of a field scenario or something like overhearing someone talking about him. He couldn't really be called antisocial at any rate; he's just not easy to talk to or get to know, at any rate. He has a passion for chemistry rooted in his ability and may or may not be a low-level pyromaniac, but a combination of his intense drive to succeed and his reserved front exudes a kind of 'foreign coolness' as it were. Although, he's actually naturally predisposed to be lighthearted, upbeat and playful, a side which occasionally shows through his shell and conflicts with his life experiences. Claude's upbringing at the hands of his overzealous family has established a desire for his achievements to be sufficiently recognized, to prove himself and his family to his peers, which often causes him to become dissatisfied with himself for not doing better when they aren't. As such, his level of determination could be described as 'reckless and idealistic'. Though he's not stupid in his recklessness; he has instincts refined from personal experience and usually has a good idea of what he's getting himself into, as well. Given his personality, he's naturally inclined to be the type who can thrive under pressure and seek out danger without care. History: House du Lac. Once great and noble, now brought to the brink of ruin by a 500 year old curse. Wealthy as they may be, the curse has dealt a crippling blow to their pride as priests. As the first and only child of this generation born with the necessary spiritual potential to become a priest, Claude was tasked with the mission of restoring the family to its former glory, just like every other heir before him. And just like every other heir before him, he was trained under harsh circumstances in order to turn an unimpressive, lackluster child into a priest strong and worthy enough to represent the name 'du Lac'. As a child, Claude was raised under the creed of 'for the sake of the family'. Everything he was subjected to, every harsh trial, every hour of painstaking training and studying, everything was justified using that phrase. Though his family as a whole wasn't unnecessarily cruel, his grandfather, the family's patriarch, was almost always disappointed with Claude's results, always pushing the driven young child beyond his limits, finally culminating in an event Claude would most definitely prefer to avoid talking about. Normally for a child's 10th birthday, people would give gifts. The gift he got from his grandfather? A camping trip in the wilderness near the estate. Alone. In the middle of winter. With minimal supplies. Armed with the bare minimum he was allotted, Claude managed for a few days, pushing himself to his very limits. For the sake of the family as always. And then he started to get a little bit crazy. Eventually the feral animal attacks, the monsters that he occasionally found, the cold weather, and the lack of food and drink, among other things, got to become too much. They found him in the epicenter of a forest fire. Which was odd because they didn't even supply him with anything that could remotely start a fire. Pleased with the results, the patriarch left the traumatized young pyromaniac to his own devices and the harsh-but-reasonable training regiments he had before his grandfather's involvement. Meanwhile, Claude was more driven than ever, having earned his patriarch's approval and coming out of the event unaffected (sort of). Naturally, once he became old enough, his family sent him off the Order. For the sake of his family... For the sake of his father, for the sake of his brothers, and for the sake of his sisters... He will rid his family of this curse. Or die trying. Weaknesses: -Desperate to prove himself often results in reckless and psuedo-self-destructive behavior -Prone to an intense sense of competition, even when inappropriate, and does not know what a friendly rivalry is -Bodily build sacrifices endurance and strength for agility -Lack of direct combat ability, and the one ability that could be used for direct combat is actually painful to use -Cursed, with all the negative effects included Other:
