[@The Harbinger of Ferocity] Regarding my barbarian, I have actually opted out of taking the Magic Initiate feat until a later level due to the balancing of his ability scores. The +1 to all variant of the Human racial features seemed better for his stats overall as opposed to the other variant Human.

My reasoning behind this is because I would see his summoning of his ancestors being a sort of pseudo-magic in some sense. If you would prefer I take Magic Initiate anyway, it could be possible that he takes it as his 4th level feat.
