James is generally unshaven and seems to perpetually have a five ‘o clock shadow. He also has a small but noticeable claw mark around the side of his mouth and lips on account of the fateful day he cried one too many. In his ‘work’ outfit, the Crier typically opts for a black suit and tie with a tucked in white shirt and black trilby hat. Whilst his overall getup mostly doesn’t change due to a lack of funds James takes great lengths to keep it looking somewhat presentable where he can. Personality: As a child James was quite cruel and callous, often tormenting and harassing others for his own amusement, he was a problem child and thought very little of that fact, or what anyone thought of him really. After the events that transpired James developed a much more serious, if slightly stern, personality and has become much more caring and considerate as a result, a boon given his line of work in regards to interacting with people regularly. Even still James is very distant, getting to know people on a first name basis only and little past that, he is prone to bouts of “trance-like” flashbacks in his sleep or when alone Background: Back in The Homelands The Boy Who Cried Wolf was renowned for his especially cruel pranks for his own “amusement”, he would torment and bully other children and harass adults and shopkeepers with jokes that often ended in someone in pain or serious peril. The Boy didn’t care, The Boy saw it all as a game. One of The Boy’s less threatening pranks was to ring the village alarm bell for false attacks and laugh as the town would flee or fight only to find his grinning face at the top of the hill. Then one day, after many a joke had ended the same way, The Boy cried wolf, and nobody heard. The ravenous monster swarmed into the village, ripping families apart and turning the streets red. The Boy ran in terror and hid in the basement of his family home, trembling in fear as he heard the screams of all those he had brought misery to in his life. After The Boy emerged in the morning to find the grisly sight, he was cast out by the survivors. The Boy didn’t protest, simply carrying a shocked look on his face as he shambled away from his home and into the great beyond. The Boy worked in numerous different towns and cities, as a vendor, advertiser or a simple beggar. Eventually he grew more and more close to the various police forces, admiring the sense of duty brought out by these men and women and their desire to help instead of harm others, The Boy eventually joined their ranks. In the event now known as “The Great Exodus” The Boy left alongside all other Tales into “The New World” to adapt to the changing times and continue their existence. In “The New World” The Crier has adopted the first name of James. Though people enjoy calling him Crier or ‘The Boy’ to mock him. He has taken the role of a suit wearing detective, in an effort to make up for all the lives he ended long ago. Skills and Abilities: - As a detective and former law enforcement officer, James is well trained in looking over crime scenes and collecting evidence, he is also familiar with the legal system and does his damndest to bring out justice in any case - From his rather rough upbringing and further training, James is a skilled hand to hand fighter and gunman. Whilst he lacks the fantastical forms and abilities of other Tales he has been trained to bring them down if necessary - James is trained to his peak and is able to run or fight for long periods of time, added by his inherent durability as a Tale and The Crier can stand against other Tales when needed. Starting Items/Trinkets: - Bell Ringer: an M1911A1 .45 Caliber Semi Automatic pistol kept in a holster strapped to James’ shirt for quick and easy access, enchanted by the witches of The Homelands to allow greater stopping power and able to damage more powerful Tales, lacks any specific wards or enchantments beyond that so as to keep it applicable to any situation. Weaknesses and Flaws: - Whilst James is well trained he is still at a disadvantage against stronger or more fantastic Tales, in these situations he generally has to resort to technology or trickery to give him any kind of edge - James is not too well off in terms of reputation, his blood stained past does not go unmentioned despite his current attempts at changing who he is, he is still thought of as being a malicious child or is regularly talked down to by other Tales Other: - The Crier Detective Agency is on the main floor of ‘The Homelands’ apartment complex, the most inhabited and expensive block, for this reason Crier sleeps in his office, his chair reclines into his bed.and he has a mini fridge under his desk. - Crier has a badge of authority but he doesn’t wear it due to literally no one taking it seriously, the community knows each other well enough to know The Crier’s occupation - To help with stress and slight issues in the past with paranoia James has developed a rather bad smoking habit as a way of self medicating
