The original plan was to have the Hangar be zero-gravity as well. The pilots' hardsuits have a mini air-thruster on the back to allow them to control their movement and speed while in zero-G, and I guess it wouldn't be out of place to have magnetized shoes/boots to attach to the ground when necessary. The image I had in my head was one like that in Gundam- as most of their ships are zero-gravity as well. Though now that I think about the gravity in the anime is weird, because they float around, but they can also just throw their legs in front of them a bit and they suddenly just slow down to a stop, which doesn't make any particular sense. Perhaps a very weak gravity field on the Hangar floor- as several of the strike craft hang on the 'ceiling' when not in use, and it'd make no sense to make them fight gravity if they didn't have to. More space magic. I'll take a more thorough look when I finish my final papers. Edit: I should mention, not all of the fresh recruits on the shuttles are pilots- some are marines, security, ship crew, engineers/mechanics, etc.
