Lords and knights roamed the land, enforcing their own personal brands of justice upon whoever they saw fit. Chaos and fear plagued the lands, stoking the fires of war. With the humans consumed with their own struggles, the creatures of night and darkness were allowed to roam freely, no one stopping to question their presence or hunt their kind. Stories of the Werebeasts, the humanoid reptiles, and many other races of carnivorous monsters were well known, however these creatures possessed the ability to disguise themselves as humans; as such, one could rarely see a beast's true form and live to tell the tale. Unable to withstand the abominations that roamed the land, a particularly wealthy family known as the Grimm's set about to purge them from the land. The Grimms trained in various forms of combat, some of which outsiders deemed as magic, and tutored themselves in the weaknesses of various species' of monsters. They cataloged their interactions with the dark creatures, judging which ones were to be purged on sight, which were to be dealt with from incident to incident, and those who were to never be harmed. Many of the weaker creatures grew to fear the Grimms, and as such, submitted to them, helping the family in any way they could to avoid extermination. The stronger creatures of night sought to kill the Grimms, sparking a war that further plunged the world into darkness as both sides mustered strength.

Creatures of the Night
Below is the cataloged information of various kinds of creatures that the Grimm family has encountered. Read on with caution.
Werebeasts

From wolves to lions to bats, these creatures are an unholy matrimony of man and beast. They come in many different forms, from Werewolves (Blutbaden) to Bats (Murciélagos). Often times, they prey only upon of creatures of darkness, finding human prey to be quite boring and not worth the chase. Most of the times a Grimm will kill one on the spot, however there have been certain cases of reformed Werebeasts that are peaceful. They possess increased speed, senses, and strength, plus a multitude of species-specific powers.

Hexenbiests

Hexenbiests are very brutal witch-like creatures. Their true forms resemble that of decaying corpses, with serpentine tongues that bear a mark in both forms to clearly identify them. The most accurate way of identifying one is by observing the black triangle-shaped symbol on the bottom of their tongues. Unquestionably, these creatures are to be killed on sight. They are enhanced in every conceivable way, and through unknown means they are able to seduce any human to do their bidding.

Löwen

Löwen are brutal creatures that are far more primal than other Wesen (mythical creatures). The live in the mountains and darker forests, prowling upon anything with meat on its bones. They are brutal creatures with little capacity to understand language and communicate. Reason has only been demonstrated by a few more advanced Löwen, however it occurred in isolated incidents that were questionable by nature. Kill on sight. They possess enhanced strength, speed, and immense size.
These creatures are a threat to the very integrity of society; they bring only anarchy and death to whatever unfortunate soul crosses their path. While not all Wesen are evil, most must perish; Only a Grimm is capable of that. Only a Grimm can be a Reaper.
