Even the sympathetic actions of the boy, Reese, had gone largely unnoticed by the general public. Why did no one cheer for the members of the Survey Corps? They had to be respected-- they were risking their lives, out there! She forced herself to straighten before looking down at the basket of flowers she had ruined. "Oh," she said simply. Fixing the remaining blooms in the basket, she turned back towards the fields. She noticed Reese again as he climbed a hill. Olivia didn't know what exactly he was doing there, but she could hear more voices from a distance. The girl even recognized some of them, and she grinned as she took a step forward. Maybe they were doing something fun up there, and she could ask why she wasn't invited. Just before she could take more than a few steps, a sound like thunder cracked through the air and the ground trembled. The vibrations moved through her body and forced her to remain firm-footed on the ground. The surprise of the jolt had stunned her, but the sounds of the shrieking civilians made her throw the basket of flowers onto the ground and motivated her to move. Olivia didn't care about the danger that she was putting herself in as she rushed towards the small buildings at the mercy of the attacking titans; she had to get to her mother. The girl sprinted into the chaos, finding herself surrounded by rubble and corpses that were crushed beneath it. Blood dyed the streets red and a terrible smell made her feel sick to her stomach. Yet, Olivia trekked on, her breaths coming out in gasps as she raced towards the flower shop. Her mother was all that was on her mind. Of course, she was smart enough to avoid the massive, human-like predators that crushed people she knew between her teeth. She wouldn't look. No, she couldn't look. A scream pierced through her frayed thoughts. Olivia saw another girl near a crushed building, stiff as a board as a titan slowly strode towards her. Without even thinking, she shot forward, her hand reaching for Jade's wrist. "Come on!" she cried out with as much force as she could muster. Olivia began to drag the girl in the direction of her own home. "We gotta hurry! My home's this way! I need to check if--" Olivia swallowed roughly before clenching her teeth. She hoped that her house was not in the same state as Jade's.
