The ordinary monster-problems the city faced were of no consequence to Mariette. However, now… she didn’t have anything specific to do. Mariette stood untransformed, looking like a normal teenage girl, in the park. She wore a large brown coat over her body, a somewhat big black cap on her head over her currently blonde long hair and glasses before her eyes. She stood with hands in her coat’s pockets, looking around. So, she had the day off. Deni and Eli were both scouting for their objectives, leaving Mariette nothing to do until results were provided. Given this, she had headed for the park, remembering Deni looking like she had fun playing with the children. But, it was late. Evening. No children around, just the occasional adults strolling around or relaxing… Disappointed, Mariette started walking through the city eyes trailing the scenery as well as the ground in front of her. She felt so lost here, like this. She had no purpose here. These men walking about, with no knowledge of her world… what did they live for? Cars driving by and regular city-ambiance made sure it was never quite silent, but… It was all so small to a girl with perfect perception and portals. Walking, lonely like this, she’d get somewhere much faster if she was transformed and walking through portals. Yet, she liked walking like this, like a normal girl. She wasn’t sure why. The only place she could go to was Joe’s place, there was no destination in the city, but she wanted to walk around anyways. She wondered why. Oh. What’s that shiny place? Mariette stopped and looked into a particularly lively storefront. It was… an arcade. There were strange game-machines in there, people playing them, and looking like they had a good time. Mariette bit together and felt an unmistakable urge in her chest. She wanted to go in there… But she had no money. Asengav had given her the interdimensional home to ensure all her needs were cared for, no need for money. As such, she couldn’t go in there. Bewildered disappointment went through her. She realized her eyes had started to water. It took a few moments of consideration to figure out why this was and what she should do about it. The overdressed girl took off her glasses and wiped her face with one sleeve, before putting the glasses on again and kept walking, a distant look about her. There was so much in this city, so many possibilities of what one could do and those different possibilities all led to so many varied ways to live a life. None of them were open to her. For she served Asengav, and Asengav alone. She could merely peek and fantasize about the kind of life she would have led had she not been found by him. Then again, her thoughts drifted to what kind of a man her father had been, perhaps still is somewhere in the world… Perhaps if Asengav hadn’t taken her, she wouldn’t have been here at all? She was suddenly unsure if she should be thankful or not to Asengav. But, it didn’t really matter. She served him and saw that his objectives were completed. As simple as that. So, resigning herself to that, Mariette kept walking through the streets of Penrose. Breathing the evening air, hands in her pockets and her distant gaze drifting across anything remotely interesting, she somewhat enjoyed her moment of peace.[/hider]
