Responsible for the calamity of fifty years past, it is widely accepted that he perished when the Warrior of Light Otreux sealed him away before the Dark Flood struck. Formally a prince of a small nation on Gaia, Roderick's kingdom was among the first to be invaded by the Mage-King's army. The prince survived, but the rest of the royal family did not. He stubbornly fought back against the forces of Darkness, but he alone was no match. It's unclear how he survived his last stand, though he attributes that to the Crystal. He, along with allies also chosen by the crystal, rallied the people of the land and fought back against the evil horde, eventually culminating in the Mage-King being sealed away by the hero Otreux, one of Roderick's closest friends. After the exodus, Roderick helped the refugees rebuild. As things progressed, he shown himself to be a natural leader. Some of the refugees were survivors of Roderick's old kingdom, and as such, they swore fealty to him once more, despite Roderick's protests. Others did this as well, and eventually the prince had no choice but to accept. And thus the Kingdom of Thorne was founded (not Roderick's idea to use his surname, but what can you do?). As the years progressed, Roderick proved to be a fine king, taking to governing just as competently as he took to fighting. He was a benevolent king, thought to be both kind and just. Under his rule, his people flourished. The city of Thorne (also not his idea) grow both outwards and upwards. As people left to find new lands to settle, it was always with Thorne that they would begin trade. Roderick married the woman he was betrothed to upon finding that she also survived the Dark Flood. They had two sons, who also married and had children. The oldest had a two sons, while the younger brother had two daughters and a son. The younger brother swore to recognize the older and his children as rightful heirs to the throne and swore himself and his to defending it. He would go on to reform the Holy Paladin Order for the purpose of protecting the Light against the forces of Darkness. As of recently, Roderick struggles to protect the fragile peace of the islands. While the war against the Mage-King is never too far from his mind, the newer generation doesn't have that as a deterrent. With resources becoming scare, it's the all Good-King can do to prevent all out war. It has taken a tremendous toll on him, with the king seemingly having aged decades in a matter of years. There have even been whispers that he may be planning on stepping down and letting his eldest son take the throne. Regardless of the current state of the realm, Roderick is beloved by the people of the islands. For his wisdom, his wit, his heroism, the man is considered to be living legend.

Both a Warrior of Light and brother to the Mage-King of infamy, Otreux is thought to have perished alongside the Mage-King when he sealed both his brother and himself away some fifty years ago. He was hailed as the greatest hero due to his selfless sacrifice to save the world. Memorials to him are scattered all across the land. He and Roderick Thorne were said to be as close as brothers, with the Good-King going as far as to dedicate the festival every year to the fallen hero.

[sub]Knights of the Paladin Order[/sub]

They're dead.
