I think if there's a specific thing you're thinking of playing but wondering about, you can ask. Otherwise I'd assume everything short of space aliens is on the table. [@HeySeuss] of course has final authority on this, but last time I rolled in this RP, we had everything from wizard detectives to demigods.

First question I'm not sure either.

Second question, I think Half-human characters were mentioned in one of the original posts, so I think they'd be acceptable.
