Madison feels constant pressure to do her very best in everything that she undertakes (despite taking a different route). This is stemmed from the hypercompetitive environment of the high school she goes to. If you don't have a 4.0, you're pretty much garbage. This is the type of place where UC Berkeley would be considered a safety school to everyone. People are literally killing themselves to stay ahead of the competition. Madison was pulled into this sort of environment, often spending a countless amount of time studying or doing extracurriculars to make that resume of hers look really, really good. Being a student in the environment she grew up in was not fun.

[indent]Madison was born to Byung and Rose Park in Mountain View, California. She is the only girl in a family of three, having one older brother and one younger. Growing up, she was pushed to be as successful in her academics as possible. Even though her parents were both graduates from UCLA, they didn't want Madison to live in their shadow and have to settle for mediocrity. As a result, she was put into a variety of things, such as after school tutoring and extra math classes to ensure that Madison would be the best in her class. 

As high school rolled around, she found that competition was literally cutthroat. People were killing themselves over not being able to succeed and everyone was overworking themselves to the point where they were hospitalized due to fatigue. Madison had been absorbed into the environment at first, but as time went on she distanced herself. She had decided to find success her own way and find things that separated herself from your everyday Asian kid with straight As and taking every AP class possible. She decided to deviate and focus more on things like sports and extracurriculars instead of slaving away at a book. [/indent]
