I have no idea if you read the VN or not, but the whole reason I brought it up to begin with is because every team is basically required to have a sponsor if they want to stand a fighting chance. There was a big stink being made over the big companies refusing to work with the main team, in fact.

The counter to this is that in America every school had a single team, so the school would maintain the gear as opposed to the sponsors in Japan.
