At the moment the United Federation of Planets is the largest, most powerful force in existence... or maybe not anymore, as they suffered a surprise attack on one of their worlds, which is being kept in secret, and sustained pretty astounding losses. This said, just about every major organization or group is on edge, as the Federation has never prior prevented all travel across the entire system.

Accounting for this, some people and factions, perhaps yours, will see this as the best time to act while the United Federation of Planets is mostly preoccupied and attempting to enforce their power.
