Instead she tried to move to them. Surely she would be safe if she was with other people? She tried as hard as she could, but Tsubaki had never been a strong girl. With the air in this place clinging to her lungs and her heart beating like a rabbit's, the effort of running was too much. Gulping in ragged breaths, she fell to her hands and knees. Then the terrible cry reached her ears. Looking back, she saw the monster she had just escaped headed right for her, and her heart fell like lead. She couldn't move, her legs wouldn't work now, and despair had sapped the last of her strength away. She closed her eyes and felt a surreal acceptance steal over her. She was going to die here. That was practically a fact already, she had just been delaying it.
