You don't need a 1000 word sample. 300 words is typically a decent offering from me anyways and is quite enough of a sample to introduce the concept of a character, combined with a character sheet that is also not a wall of text. Neither section has to be particularly long, simply having both is more thorough. There is no 100% foolproof way to screen a player, but there are ways to reduce the chances of getting someone who won't give a damn after 5 posts.

I think a moderate size of both is optimal, CS to describe a character physically and note the experiences they draw upon, and a sample to give people a taste of the character itself.

I guess saying, you're apathetic to doing it, is better than outright denying that's what's going on? Call that progress. I think the irony of people bitching at me, I'm bitching at them is not lost. Again, this started from personal opinions that we're mistaken as broad personal statements.

Again, you like everyone else I replied to answered my personal experience and countered with your own. 1000 is what I'm used to seeing. 300 I guess is somehow going to show that someone can post in advance forums, where 300 words is barely anything at all and probably doesn't remotely reflect the actual word count of a real post of the RP they'll be in. The closer the sample actually fits standards of what you're expecting, I'd have to assume that's better in general. Yes?

But again, I dropped this because I'm not going to spend anymore time on trying to explain why an opinion can't be wrong and how I reached that opinion makes perfect sense. And all being snarky assholes about such a pointless discussion makes everyone involved the very words I was criticized for using.
