  Well, it's currently the month of Ramadhan, which has been decreed by Allah to be the month of fasting for Muslims. It's one of the pillars of Islam. We do it to appreciate the less fortunate, be forgiven, become better people, rest our digestive system, and distance ourselves from sinful stuff. Fasting starts at sunrise and ends at sunset.
