Aside from them not being especially useful without any masses to kill and infect, I'm going to say 'no' on bringing in existing things from intellectual properties.  Anything you introduce on your own must be original.

You can steer your character into a situation where she might encounter a faction, but I'm explicitly controlling the factions.
