Growing up you were how you presented yourself. You look tough? You prolly kick it with the bangers. You wearing last year’s style? You basically assumed to be on welfare. And if you lookin’ fresh? You prolly got that cash money. Does Silo have money? Not necessarily, though his family is doing much better off now than they were in the past. Silo might not be rolling in cash [s]yet[/s], but he never fails to look put together, often bargain hunting stylish pieces at thrift stores, or snagging them when they go on mega-sale at the brand stores. Working part-time in the barber shop that his uncle Charlie owns, Silas’ hair is well-maintained with crisp, clean lines, and just the right amount of product to tame his natural curls. He keeps his face clean-shaven, though at his young age, that isn’t the most impressive feat. As evidenced by his smooth, caramel-brown complexion, Silo proudly identifies as mixed - his mother being a beautiful black queen and his father being filipino and maybe cuban, he didn’t stick around long enough for anyone to know for certain. Silo tends to wear a lot of whatever is in current fashion the floridian city scene that he comes from. Currently, Silas sports a lot of denim jackets, vests, skinny pants, and solid cotton shirts in cool colors, like blue and gray. It’s not too out of place to see him wearing something wild, such as an animal print or a bright bowtie, Silo can be bold when it comes to clothing choices. He is also no stranger to accessorizing his look with various types of hats, necklaces, bracelets, and watches that appear to be pricey - but often aren’t - the exception being the Fitbit Surge that his auntie Shyanne (Charlie’s wife) got him for his sixteenth birthday just a few weeks ago.
║ Personality ║
The Positive: ➕ Highly Active ➕ Ambitious ➕ Devoted to Family

The Negative: ➖ Very Competitive ➖ Minor Delinquent ➖ Unsettled

More in depth: Friends and family mean everything to Silo. Hands down, no argument about it, Si is an absolute mama’s boy. Of course he is, she kept both herself and him afloat when his pops bailed before he was even born. Silo learned what respect meant at a young age and, to this day, he values family above all else. Life had some harsh lessons to teach Silas before he grew to be the young man that he is today. He intimately knows poverty, loss, violence, and all of the other colorful descriptors that [s]white[/s] people often try to paint the “urban” landscape with. These are the things that made him tough, and hardened him to the world, because that’s what you had to be to survive the projects. Silo has made mistakes, he has dabbled in truancy, and other crime. While his classmates were watching their cartoons, Silas was on the streets stealing and slinging dope, doing whatever he could to help his moms make ends meet. She didn’t know who was leaving the money in the mailbox, Silo never told her. Things are different now, Silas’ days of delinquency are mostly in the not-so-distant past, and he has his sight set on more legal, admirable means of helping his family. Silo has started trying harder in school, revealing a considerable talent for numbers and high level math. When he isn’t in class, Silo is participating in school sports, where he can get his competitive energy out in a healthy way. His favorite sports are wrestling, basketball, and football, mostly in that order, but all pale in comparison to dance club. When school and athletics aren’t taking up his time, Silas makes some money as a barber’s apprentice and, of course, spends time with his friends, with whom he sometimes gets in mild amounts of trouble. Mild. Overall, he is a very good boy, he’d give you the shirt off his back in the freezing rain without you even having to ask for it. Sixteen is too young to be having a kid, especially when the other parent isn’t willing take responsibility. Rey, Silas’ father, was a few years older than Georgia when he knocked her up. Old enough to hit it and split before the consequences of his young lust caught up to him. For all anyone knows, he could be dead by now. Rey was a gangbanger, so it’s not too far-fetched to assume him either shot up or locked up at this point. In some ways, Silas hopes that he is, as cold as that might make him, because no one deserves to live happily in ignorance after doing something like he did to Silo’s mama. Growing up in the projects west of I-4 was... an experience. The Owens’ lived in an area where it varied from "Keep Your Doors Locked" to “Was That a Gunshot or a Car Backfiring?” to "Learn Math By Counting The Prostitutes", depending on the time of day that you visited. Georgia worked two shifts daily to pay for their shitty studio apartment, the days as a hairdresser alongside her brother, and the nights as a dancer. These job choices were far from ideal, and the long hours made her irritable and exhausted, but they ensured that both she and her baby had food to eat. Fried bologna and Juicy Juice might not be all that high class, but they taste like prime rib and champagne when they are all you know. Silas wanted for nothing, that is until he started going to school, then he wanted what all of the other kids had. This wasn’t purely out of selfishness, the public school students judged him harshly for his lack of material things. Instead of internalizing this bullying and bringing it home to his moms to worry over, Silo did something about it. He stole things, he sold things. He was participating in these crimes at a shockingly early age. The streets start you young. When Silo was eight, his mother met a man named Michael Rhodes. He was a bit older than her, but she fell in love, and that’s all that mattered. Mike made her happy, and they were with child and married in only a year's time. While other little boys might get jealous at the news of having a younger sibling on the way, Si welcomed it with open arms. Having a baby brother was awesome! Once Eli was old enough that he didn’t cry all the time, everything seemed pretty awesome. Michael took on the role of ‘man of the house’, he brought in good money, Georgia didn’t have to work as much, and they all got to be a happy family, together. They even moved out of the projects and into a cute little apartment in a better part of the city. Georgia stopped cutting hair and studied up enough to get a real estate license. But, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. Mike smoked like a chimney, and this fact caught up to him in the form of cancer. Lung cancer, specifically. Silas was 12, and Elias 3, when Michael passed away. Eli was too young to really understand what had happened but, for Silo, this was the first time that death had impacted him so closely. Mike wasn’t his dad, but he was starting to feel like one… just in time to be taken away. The loss of a loved one, and the fear of returning to poverty status once again, was enough to drive Silas back into his old criminal habits. This time around, Georgia was wiser to Silo’s misdeeds. She caught him with dope in his room and beat the preteen silly for it. Once she was thoroughly convinced that it wasn’t his in the sense that he was doing it - because he wasn’t - they had a long discussion about making good choices. Silo took it to heart. His mama deserved the world, she had given him so much over the years, and Silas felt the need to start returning that to her in full. There was that, and little Eli needed a man to look up to. Now, Silo is trying to be that man. As it turns out, his moms is making enough money doing her real estate business that he doesn’t feel the looming pressure of falling into poverty quite so much - it also helps that Michael left them quite a bit of life insurance money. In fact, they are doing better than just ‘making it by’, as they used to. As long as Silas stays in school, works hard, and is involved in the community in a positive and enriching way, Georgia sends him off somewhere fun for the summer, as a birthday present. So, here Silo is, enjoying what is left of his teen years, before he has to move on to the next stage of life.
