More a matter of avoiding the Fire Emblem thing, as much of a fan as I am of the series. Even if a longsword user was the first character that got scrapped. Mostly since, even if writing longsword combat is fun, the lack of armor worth half swording in the arena coupled with not liking him otherwise scrapped him haha.
