I don't see why not. I mean a "national" power is someone powerful enough to influence a whole nation or kingdom. Not in charge, or blasting whole castles to dust but influencing. Couple that with being a few hundred years old, I would be hard pressed to think of a reason I would not have amassed such allies. Besides The GM seem to be OK with it.
