A quick glance around the auditorium had shown that there were less people than seats, yet to Sienna it was no different than a superior giving her squadron their required briefing. However, there wasn't any individuals wearing protective hazmat suits with worried expressions on their faces in the Jordanian desert. Sienna looked down at them, wondering if they might have been your typical health nut, worried over catching anything, even the common flu, which Sienna thought she had. The sickness had stopped Sienna from accomplishing her orders, which had been a pain to deal with when her squadron depending on Sienna to lead them. Eventually, a woman with auburn hair had entered the auditorium, although unlike her colleagues she was wearing just a lab coat rather than a protective suit. The scientist had begun to explain their situation, that the sickness was more than just the flu, and that if their illness wasn't treated by those in this facility then a possible outbreak could happen. Sienna had understood her situation, listening without question as she was trained, but Sienna felt doubt even when the scientist had shown that she once had the same sickness that they were experiencing. For all that Sienna knew, it was nothing more than lousy special effects to wow the audience in the auditorium. After all, it was hard for Sienna to accept the fact that they were essentially told that their bodies were developing super powers. The whole spectacle was science fiction, as if the scientist had pulled her entire speech from a comic book. Sienna was thrilled if in the case it was true, but the idea was nearly impossible to accept as reality. Regardless, Sienna knew leaving the facility on her own terms was not an option. Doing so, Sienna thought, would have been no different than deserting her post in Jordan. At least the scientists had thought of their patients and included numerous activities to keep Sienna and the rest of those seated with her entertained during their stay. After the woman had left, they were led through the facility. As the scientist had said and pointed out, the facility was, indeed, filled with activities for the patients to enjoy, with each room labeled with a plaque designating what was inside. After passing several doors, Sienna noticed that the facility had a pool for the patients to enjoy. Sienna smiled as she read the plaque, feeling swimming in cool water would be a nice change from standing in the heat of the Jordanian weather. The airfield had running water, yes, but it was reserved for bathing and coolant tanks. All the pilots, including Sienna, had to suffer in the heat with little air conditioning to cool off the barracks. To enter the cafeteria, the group had to walk through the hallway that hosted the bedrooms for them to sleep in. A number of the rooms were empty, but some were reserved for those walking with Sienna and the suited men. Looking around, Sienna found hers, and noticed that two other people were situated nearby her quarters. Turning her gaze to the adults marching along, Sienna wondered which of the five were located in room fifteen and twenty. However, before Sienna had the time to let her thoughts wander too far, the party had arrived to the cafeteria, and were soon served by suited men wearing aprons. They were given directions on what to do, which were as straightforward as they could be. Sienna, like the rest, was told to drink the bluish medicine, and as well order what they preferred to eat. Taking a tray, Sienna shuffled her way down the line as if she was once again back at her barracks' cafeteria. Deciding on a similar meal from the barracks, Sienna ordered fish and chips, and like the man before her, she couldn't pass up the chance for old fashioned hand-brewed tea. With thanks said to the man serving them, Sienna followed suit and sat down at one of the tables in the cafeteria. Looking at the liquid, Sienna decided to finish it first. Sienna had saw the other tea drinker grimace when he had taken a swig of the medicine, and she knew it was better just to get the liquid out of the way. Pulling her head back, Sienna gulped it down like an alcoholic shot as a silly expression roused on her face like a child being forced to drink cough syrup. It was bitter, and Sienna quickly decided to wash down the aftertaste with warm tea. The tea was refreshing, reminding Sienna of calm afternoons in her San Francisco home, but nothing was calm in Sienna's life since she had signed up for the air force. Their illness was slated to be dangerous, but in the end, it was just another routine, an event for Sienna to get through.
[@Jinxer]
