He quickly covered his mouth as he attempted to save some face as the drink dribbled from his mouth but she didn't seem taken back by his sudden nervousness. Instead the young woman began to speak, her words clipped with a cold anger, but that wasn't what caught Bailey's attention. Her voice, it was there, smooth as silk as it lilted with an accent but there was something else. As if there was an echo to each word. "Mary?" he mumbled as his head seemed to fill up with the fog of distant memories. It couldn't be Mary, Mary was dead. He shook his head as he tried to clear his confusion. It was impossible. This girl didn't even look anything like Mary, yet he was so sure that he had heard her voice. 'Maybe, I'm more tired than I thought?' He sighed, brushing back a few wet strands of hair from his face before looking back at the girl. 'Crap, she's still staring at me.' Bailey subverted his gaze to his half empty cup of coffee, surely she was waiting on him to respond. Maybe even defend himself but his mouth felt dry. His thoughts swimming with the confusion as Mary's voice still rang across his mind. Had she said something similar? No. It wasn't likely. Mary was soft and sweet where this girl was bold and full of an icey anger. "My apologies." he managed to choke out as he tried to shove the uncomfortable feeling that was tightening around his chest. "I was rude." he tacked on as he picked up his half eaten apple, feeling the smoothness of its skin beneath his fingertips. Bailey didn't dare look back up at the woman, his expression had clouded with darkness and his face had turned a dark red from embarrassment but more so he didn't want her to see the faint tears that had begun to sting his eyes.
