With her holographic backpack and black suitcase resting safely in the backseat, Jenna sat on the passenger side of an old silver Buick Regal , singing her young heart out while her best friend Shantelle Reed was at the wheel. The curvaceous young women were speeding down the highways, driving across states and cities to reach their destination: Humboldt Airport, where a bus would be waiting to take JK down to her final destination: Aces High Summer Camp. Jenna had heard about Aces from a friend of a friend by passing, and upon further research she’d decided that spending the upcoming summer in the camp’s breathtaking facilities would be a much needed blessing. Of course, the road to attending Aces hadn’t been a smooth one for her. The easiest part by far had been getting her mother’s permission. When Jenna had brought up her desire to spend ten weeks in another state’s countryside, Karen Moore had nearly cried with excitement. She played it off by saying she was happy that her daughter wanted to have new experiences. But in reality, Karen was relieved. Jen K attending this camp meant that she would get ten blissful weeks of knowing her daughter wouldn’t be getting into any troublesome behavior behind her back. It was as if Christmas had arrived early. The hard part was getting the money to make her Aces High dreams come true. After doing some research and calculating the amount of money she would be needing, Jenna began to take the appropriate actions. Firstly, she called the camp to explain her situation and see if there was a way she could get a lower rate. To her surprise, the camp director had offered to help out, and lowered Jenna's rate to one she would have less difficulty with. Then came savings time. Jenna had a part-time job as a grocery shop cashier, and from this paycheck she began to move a specific amount of money to a savings account. In addition, she took to selling homemade pot brownies to her friends and classmates to further increase her profit, because she knew the one job wouldn’t be enough. By the time had arrived, Jenna had already surpassed her established goal. Twenty minutes later, Jenna Kathleen Moore was officially signed up for Aces High. Fast-forward to two months later. Here she was: inside Shanty’s parked Buick in Humboldt Airport’s lot, with her bags ready and glancing over at the school bus that would ultimately take her to Aces. “Promise me you’ll behave, Jenna.” Shanty told her best friend with a smirk, knowing fully well JK was not a girl who would behave. Especially when she’d be out of Bellingham for ten weeks and with a prospect of fresh meat to conquer. “When have I ever not behaved?” Jenna replied back, shooting the same smirk back at Shantelle. Both girls exchanged knowing glances before ultimately bursting out in laughter. “But, seriously, though. Pinky promise I’ll try to behave myself.” “If you say so…” Shanty said playfully. Out of nowhere, her smile faded as she turned to look at Jenna with sad eyes. “I’ll fucking miss you, you slut.” she told the brunette, brushing Jenna’s cheek with her index finger. “And I’ll fucking miss you, bitch.” Jenna replied in a soft voice, lacing her fingers with Shanty’s and kissing the tan hand that was caressing her face. There was a long pause. Shantelle hesitated for a moment, but ultimately leaned forward and pressed her lips to Jenna’s. Both girls shared a long, deep kiss before Jenna finally pulled away, grabbed her bags and boarded the Aces High school bus waiting outside the Humboldt airport. She watched from the window as the bus began to move forward, gathering speed, and soon enough Shanty’s car disappeared from view. Throughout the bus ride to the camp grounds, Jenna kept to herself, only acknowledging the thin, black-haired young man sitting beside her with a nod only once when he sat down in the empty space. Headphones on, eyes watching the scenery go by, but her mind racing. Over the past month, Jen K and Shanty’s relationship had been treading on dangerous grounds. The girls had been best friends since the third grade, grown up with a bond so close that they felt like sisters to each other. But things had changed from sisterhood to sexual attraction after the duo shared a drunken kiss at a friend’s party. Jenna and Shanty had found themselves thinking long and hard about the kiss, brushing it off as consequences of peer pressure and drinking too much. They decided to confirm this theory a few nights later at Jenna’s place, and what started as a test kiss ended with one of the most passionate encounters both girls had ever had in their lives. From that point on, their bond had changed, but they had chosen to ignore the issue for fear of ultimately ending their friendship. Jenna hoped that maybe these ten weeks apart would help them clear their head and figure things out. Lost in these thoughts, JK had found herself arriving at Aces High in a surprisingly short time. When her name was called, she walked to the camp director and took the envelope from her outstretched hand. Once back in her position at the end of the crowd, Jenna carefully opened the object that contained her fate for the next ten weeks. Inside was a card, with a suit assignment written in pretty curly writing: Queen of Diamonds Jenna couldn’t hold back the snort that came after reading her assigned cabin. The sheer irony of it amused her to no end, and quite frankly was laughable. What were the odds that who most likely was the camper that came from the poorest background was the one to be assigned the Diamonds, and Queen of Diamonds at that? Jenna hadn’t even seen what a diamond look like in person. Her friends back home would have a kick out of that one. Letting out another snort and shaking her head a little, Jenna took her bags and walked to the space where her assigned suit counselors were standing as instructed. She took position right behind the fit blond young man and the short, thin girl standing beside him -the counselors who were apparently in charge of her suit cabin-, and took to staring mindlessly at the rest of her fellow campers while blowing winterblue gum bubbles as she waited for the introductions to begin.
