She had encountered S.H.I.E.L.D. once before in her lifetime, when they attempted to put her on the gifted index. Between the ages of five and seven, she had lived with her father's family. After that, it was a series of foster homes and a similar series of fires, culminating in her running away, and only moving in with her uncle when she turned fifteen. The agents never did manage to register her on the index, mostly from a plot of her uncle's making. They ended up faking October's death in the encounter, making it appear that she burned in her own flames. Of course, the agents never did learn that the flames did not harm October. She and her uncle had made certain of that, not taking too kindly to the thought of being added to a registration. "They will put us on the index if we do not escape," October explained, glancing over at Carolina. Their other option would be to run in the opposite direction of the jet, either ending up in the clutches of local law enforcement or being forced to return the artifact to Faust. She doubted that Faust would allow them to study the artifact and her curiosity with the institute had mostly been satisfied at this point. It appeared to be a facility for the cultivation of powers--the purpose, of course, did remain unclear. "But they may also help us to understand the box," October added, tugging on her hair. To her, the choice was then between freedom and knowledge. But then October grinned slightly. The last she had used her powers had been in the escape from the house, setting the back entrance ablaze. There was likely no proof that she had used pyrokinetic abilities to do that--at least, not evidence that S.H.I.E.L.D. could obtain. The same was true for Carolina. "Let us pretend to be normals," October suggested. "It seems likely that they're here for the box--maybe they'll share its secrets with us. And should things go awry, between the pair of us we should be able to make it back to the school." Time was running out to make a decision, of course. The S.H.I.E.L.D. team had already begun to exit the quinjet, armed with weapons--whether they were pistols or icers was not immediately obvious, of course. It would be less than a minute before the team was on the girls. They would need to move quickly if they wanted to escape.
