The blow connected with James's helmet, just like he knew it would, and his shield had something of a shattering effect as it went down. However, what he hadn't expected was that the blow would manage to send him sliding back several feet despite the interference of the shielding, causing him to completely stop the follow up slash with his knife and dive to the right, firing three shots from the Imago Loop to force the gentleman, who was now confirmably something more than human, to reconsider a direct follow up.

While he was moving and reloading, Charger was figuring out what had happened. [color=LightCoral][i]"That was rather out of character for our shielding.
