He stands at 5'5, and never trims his nails. Name: Maksim Maciej Stoker Gender: Male Age: 15 Personality: Maksim rarely does anything with his full soul. He lives between present moments to get by. His life has been a series of half-assed attempts to live above average, but he's only good at being above average in his inability of seeing things through. His focus on mistakes and the negative has led him down many of the wrong paths in his short life - he never knew anyone that was positive about him, either. Any honesty left in him was eradicated by a cynicism of being, but never placing himself above anyone else. In fact, he thinks so lowly of himself and his own actions, it's impossible for anyone to like him. There's only one thing he feels passionate about - being a hero. But he doesn't even know what that means. His demeanor could be seen as offensive, but he means little harm to anyone - but his lack of self belief and inability to trust himself can be worrisome. He isn't the kind to stutter and sweat from unease, but to remain steadfast in his decision to remove himself from responsibility. He's not used to being allowed to speak, so has no knowledge on persuasion or a good conversation. Background:
Maksim is a third generation immigrant from eastern Europe, but apart from his rather telling first name, there is little that gives that away. His accent is completely American, and he doesn't carry any of the traditions of his people. However, he isn't that patriotic either. Maksim's parents were both successful enterprise CEOs, who met in a business gala. His early childhood was fantastic, and the family seemed exempt from the oncoming Quirk phenomenon. Although they weren't outright attacked, nobody looked at them the same in the area. Maksim thought it was normal for people to dislike him and his family. His parents never made it obvious - they wanted him to discover these things by himself. Their name wasn't originally Stoker - they were the Ljubavics. In fact, Maksim's parents were rather proud of their ancestry, and this often got them unwanted attention from a rather zealous neighbourhood. Things rapidly went downhill for the family, when their companies nosedived due to the political instability caused by the rise of quirks. Maksim and his family became proud to be quirkless, as those with quirks were seen as outcasts by the Stoker family. Delinquents of the human condition. In a hypocritical way, they treated people with quirks the same way they were treated by their neighbourhood for being Eastern European. The double standard never occurred to the young Maxim, who was complacent with the way he was treated by his peers; terribly. His father and mother began drifting apart, one wanting reform and the other an uncompromising solidarity. They clashed and began to dispise each other, with Maxim being caught in the middle. He became ammunition for each side, often involved in arguments and disputes. Usually when he ran away, he was always dragged back. He stopped trying to run away altogether. Maksim's brother, a boy who was born with a quirk, was impressive but screamed uniqueness. His parents always viewed Maksim as their true successor, even if he was younger than his brother. The sibling had the incredible traits of wings and fire breath, but never got the chance to use them under his parent's roof. Before long, he took his wings and flew away, becoming a popular vigilante. At school, a particular bully was getting the better of him. Mehmet, one of the few boys in Maksim's school to acquire a quirk, had the peculiar ability of sensing fear in a person's heart and freezing them if it was present. It only worked on the other kids, and what started as a joke became far more sinister. His posse used to pick on the smaller kids, including himself, freezing them and taking advantage of their defenselessness. Once again, Maksim's body wouldn't move. On one day, such alike the norm but somehow different, another boy intervened. He defended Maksim when nobody else would. Mehmet's quirk failed to work, but they attacked him anyway. Maksim wanted to help him, but instead became the next victim. They were more vicious this time. They had something to prove. In the flurry of attacks, he bit down on his tongue by accident. Inside, the blood spewed out, and he tasted his own blood for the first time. It was completely tasteless. Like water, but less nutritious. He felt brave. Mehmet's quirk no longer worked on him. He was no longer afraid. When Maksim shouted, he felt like his voice shattered the world. It was an ordinary yell, but the boys were too put off by Maksim's vigour to pick on him again. It should have been a heroic moment, but the gaze of Mehmet never left him. His mother, the winner of his custody, was originally appalled by the idea of her son having a quirk, and Maksim realised he was treated the same way as his father. His mother changed their name to Stoker in spite of his father. He felt alienated in his own house, deciding that he didn't need to be a hero. He wasn't brave, he wasn't intelligent, and didn't respect himself enough to improve his ways. He walked without moving for the rest of his childhood. One moment changed it all, on his way home from school. A small time villain ran into him and didn't want any witnesses. The criminal was quirkless, but he still had a knife. Once again, Maksim froze. Then his brother saved his life. Like a dragon from the sky, he soared down and apprehended him. The criminal still had another knife under his jacket; Maksim knew this, but couldn't open his mouth. The street was set alight. The boy stood there, too afraid to help or run away, the world burning around him. His brother saved the day, looking down on Maksim like a stranger. It should have been a moment of reunion, but Maksim was less than happy to see someone do so well with his quirk, while he had done nothing with his. After that day, Maksim felt what pain was like. The pain of doing nothing. His mother hit him that day, and the blood tasted bitter. But his brother showed him what he could become. He was going to protect everyone that needed protecting, quirkless or not, with whatever power he had. Disobeying his mother, avenging his brother, he set off to become a hero.
Quirk: Maksim's power is locked behind a prison of his own blood. When a part of his body bleeds, it bleeds rapidly. He can become light headed quickly, but by tasting his own blood, a peculiar thing happens. The part of his body bleeding becomes much more powerful. The first instance of this was his tongue, which could create a small breeze with him speaking, but Maksim has yet to experiment with much else. Superhuman strength and ability is given to the part of the body that bleeds once tasted - his arms can become that of a heavy weight boxers, his legs that of a kangaroo's, but this power is tied to how much blood he can drink. With a drop, his power is much less, but the more he tastes the stronger he becomes. His limits are dependent on how long he can stay conscious - although he gets stronger the more he bleeds, he also becomes less accurate. The bigger the wound, too, affects the area of the muscle enhanced, but the pain to open one would be immense. Theoretically, bleeding his eyeball could enhance his vision, but that's not on Maksim's to-do list. Talents and Skills: Maksim can speak a fair amount of Romanian, and has a robust knowledge of European history. Through his inability to move, Maksim is a professional at being unnoticed. He can make himself appear like a statue, unless someone is actively looking for him. The boy knows how to handle his money, and often plays the stock market for extra cash. This was a skill passed on by his parents, and he knows a bit too much about the economy, too. Finally, he understands how people feel most of the time. He always assures himself that the person he's talking to is better than he, which allows him to empathize better, but not always defend himself.
