They should have signaled them by now. Something was wrong. These people from the mall seemed to be one step ahead, whatever their endgame was. Dallen opened a cabinet and told Erin to go inside if things got bad again. "Remember when we found you, you were safe from the dead in a cabinet like this," Dallen talked with the little girl. "If anything comes up here that isn't us, you need to go in the cabinet and wait for Elizabeth. I have to help Briggs and Leroy, Blake will be here." A simple nod was enough, as he closed her in to the cabinet. He felt horrible in doing so, but he knew something bad was up. Dallen reached over and grabbed Blake by the collar of his shirt. "If anything happens to her..." "I won't let anything get to her," Blake spoke dryly but as honestly as he could. ... As Dallen went down the flight of stairs on one side of the building they were in, the skin changers went up the other end save for a few of them. A few shotgun shells sounded off near the base, then silence again. After opening into the lobby, Dallen saw Briggs standing there in the center facing toward him. Three skin changers stood behind him, as Briggs spit out some blood. He had taken two of them out, but the rest tackled him and stabbed him a few times. Now they held his near lifeless body as he fell to his knees. "Let him go," Dallen said. The third skin changer held up Leroy Book's head, then dropped it to the floor. The one holding Briggs put his blade at the security guard's throat. "There is no room for you in our world," the skin changer said. "Dallen, kill them..." Briggs shouted, but the skin changer swiped his sharp blade across his throat. Briggs fell to the floor, dying in a pool of his own blood. Dallen immediately opened fire, taking each of them down with precise shots from his desert eagle. The powerful handgun blew each of them away without a chance for them to fire back. ... Blake let Erin look out the large windows of the room they were in. It was an old office space, as much of the room was cubicles. It reminded Blake of his girlfriend, way back before any of this hell started. She worked in a similar office, he found himself wondering what had happened to her. Most likely she was dead, like everyone else. "Stay quiet Erin, I'll be right back," Blake said. "I just have to pee, I'll go in the bathroom down the hall. Even though I'm pretty sure the toilets stopped working, we'll see I suppose. We won't be here for very long anyway. So stay put, remember what Dallen said." Blake exited the room and took two steps down the hall when he came face to face with a skin changer. He screamed in fear as his gun was knocked from his grasp. The skin changer quickly tackled Blake into the ground, while another rushed in and stuck a blade into his eye. They stabbed Blake a few more times in the head, then headed into the room Erin was in. Erin heard the scream, and the act afterward. She quietly entered the cabinet and closed herself in. The skin changers started to search the room, looking to kill anyone left alive.
