[@Catharyn]Not armor plated per se... Only instead of skin as ours it would be some sort of synthetic polymer alloy... which if slightly more durable then our skin is by no means armor... Let’s say more durable against slashing weapons but still vulnerable to penetrating ones... And the way I imagine it... there will be softer, less durable spots... like joints and stuff.

They are, for all intents and purposes both alive and mechanical... I don't know how to explain it... If you're familiar with Farscape...
