Other worlds, yes. They are going to school with aliens from other worlds. Yay. Other worlds and knowledge of them are fine. Alternate universes, even, since the new DC comics is basically that - but not [i]our[/i] world. Let's keep their world that we are writing in, their world, and our world ours, and just love each other and eat pizza rolls. :)

And yeah, the random parentheses with (-insert me speaking to you here-) within a post is HIGHLY distracting, when my brain is wired, when reading a story, to look for extra information that character is expressing.

"There was a hallway to the right where a light was shining towards the end (albiet dimly)." is a great example.
"There was a hallway to the right where a light was shining towards the end (which I'm sure someone turned on at some point)." is a very distracting (and dear I say) annoying example. (See what I did there in my parentheses? Look! I'm doing it again! Woo!)
