While the old tags wont change in post which have previously been submitted, they will still lead to the same user. I couldn't tell you if using the old tag name will notify the person though as I haven't yet tried it yet.

We, the mods, can see a list of the latest changes but I don't believe there's a public viewing. I can say though that most have been relatively minor with either spelling or easy to spot adjustments. From what I can see no one has yet to create a new image. With PMs however the name will change but the conversation will continue unhindered. Keeping that in mind you have a list of old users tagged in a PM or something, that will still be valid for your particular reasons.

To understand it all a bit better imagine how every user has a number attached to their account. You can test this with the https://www.roleplayerguild.com/users where adding /1 will lead to Mahz.

The Username is merely a label on top of that for us to identify each other with.
