It is a bit tacky to learn spells as you go as is convenient for the scene. 

The point is to problem solve with available resources and creativity. Not suddenly have magic solutions for everything that comes up.

I'll also clarify, Rockin'doesn't know human anatomy so it makes sense he doesn't get it, but by medical logic zesiro should not be able to move/talk/be awake. The hole in his stomach is really big. It is pretty miraculous that he's doing anything...
