[@AtomicNut] It's up to you, big of a house as the Florents are, they're bound to be bastards. And Maegi are well blood mages. They work in secret because what they do is basically forbidden. If the Crown found out one was operating openly, and for a noble house no less, it'd mean a lot of trouble. At the very least, they'd be under a lot of scrutiny. 

As for the Breath of Life, that seems to be a power reserved for very few Red Priests, and the implication is that one only accesses the ability at the lowest moment of despair for the priest in question. But some clairvoyant powers and glamours are fine within reason.
