William Tell is one solid idea, and there is Locusta (a woman who made poisons for emperors in Rome), Guy Fawkes (ah, the Gunpowder Plot), and even possibly Grendel (since he is descended from the human Cain) from Beowulf perhaps since he killed men in the dead of night and such?
