[@JBRam2002]As much as I want to make the gate out of innocent maidens its wrought iron. 

As for the DM knowing how sturdy something is, I do but some things are to be found out in game. My DM always would say to me "I dunno" and just grin. He found it made me more inventive and working around the stuff he came up with.
