But as with all things I think there's a bit of discretion involved when selecting the good and the bad; poor writing makes torture seems meaningless, dull and... y'know, not interesting. I'd prefer well written sexual fantasies over poorly written torture, as a reader.

There seems to be some sort of bias towards sexual fantasies when we're talking about writing quality, though, so sexual fantasies are more often poorly written, in my experience.
