Matt had nothing to do but wait and listen to his comms as their two scouts forged ahead to the crater. His mind wandered to through their trip. He had expected them to run into more monsters than they had. Everything seemed tranquil. Even the land was quite beautiful, despite the crater. If the world had never gone to hell, Matt would have loved to raise a family here, build a cabin. Perhaps, though, he wouldn't have wanted to live here. Perhaps, before the collapse, everything was polluted, destroyed. With a sickening thought, Matt realized that the monsters cleansed the world, gave them a new Earth to build on. If they could take back their world then Humanity would have so many resources at their hands. Perhaps they could learn from the monsters, learn ways to rebuild a better Human Earth, but in a way that would allow them to prosper for ages to come, using the knowledge of the monsters to do so. They just had to defeat the Other first. Crackling comms brought his attention back to reality. Nathan had lost contact with them, it appeared. Jake gave the order to follow in their scouts' footsteps and so they did. It was yet another quiet ride, the peace disturbed only by the empty Wild Men village. As they neared the crater Matt felt the air change, almost like there was a sort of power surging through it. It felt like being near a lightning strike, or that was the closest feeling that might describe it. Then the once molten rock showed up, melted into beautiful patterns. It was only when Matt dismounted and peered over the edge that Matt felt a shiver run through his body. There were so many of them, an army! "This is unreal," Matt said, his eyes now focusing on the glowing object. "Anyone have an idea what that is? Now that we can see it."
